К вопросу об онтогении денежного интереса

Чем глубже проникает психоанализ в творения народной психологии (мифы, сказки, фольклор), тем определеннее подтверждаются факты филогенетического возникновения символов: они осаждаются в душе отдельного индивидуума как конденсат опыта более ранних поколений. Эту важную задачу — обособленное исследование филогении и онтогении символики и установление их взаимных отношений — в аналитическом смысле еще предстоит решить. Классическая формула о «Daimwn kai Tuch» в фрейдовском применении: о взаимодействии унаследованного и приобретенного при возникновении индивидуальных стремлений, позволит наконец применить ее к генезису и этого психического содержания, а тем самым поднимет и старый спорный вопрос о «врожденной идее» уже не в форме пустых спекуляций. Сегодня мы можем сказать, что для становления символа наряду с врожденной диспозицией необходим индивидуальный опыт, который поставляет собственно материал для символообразования, в то время как упомянутая врожденная установка, до того как был приобретен опыт, имела, может быть, только ценность какого-то ( Read more... )

Does the apparent triumph of capitalism mean the worldwide triumph of consumerism coupled with capitalism's ability to deliver the goods, or does it require a fundamental reconsideration of what do human beings really want?
In my first exuberant surge of premature post-Marxist energy (Life Against Death, 1959), I wagered my intellectual life on the idea of finding in Freud what was missing in Marx. I found in Freud's analysis of the pathological dimension in human desires the basis for a post-Marxist critique of capitalism. Life Against Death, chapter 15, "Filthy Lucre": the amazing Freudian discovery of the connection between money and anality. My Marxist background had given me a healthy prejudice against moneymaking. Imagine my excitement when I discovered Sandor Ferenczi's article called "The Ontogenesis of the Interest in Money"; with its immortal conclusion, "After what has been said money is seen to be nothing other than deodorized, dehydrated shit that has been made to shine."1 "Nothing other than": it is the exaggeration which grabbed me. Years later I discovered the epigram of Theodor Adorno, "In psychoanalysis the only true thing is the exaggerations.'' That I now recognize as the cornerstone of a Dionysian epistemology.
